My story
My name is Phan Thị Thu, a student at Vinh Medical University. I learned that the Scholarship Fund was established to award scholarships to pupils and students whose family circumstances are difficult but who have the will to press on in their studies, so as to help give their dreams wings.
To make my dream come true, I must first attend to the course of study I have chosen. That is easily said, yet time has flown and three years of university have already passed; before long my career path will be very close at hand. I still remember the awkwardness of my first days as a student, unsure of the subjects and of the learning environment, the feeling of longing to become a good nurse — and now I am preparing for my graduation examinations.
I used to think that studying medicine suited girls, and that later on it would be easier to find a steady job. When I began my studies and looked into the specialised subjects, they were hard to grasp, yet I found it fascinating to understand that the human being is a creature full of God's wisdom. To truly care for someone is not only to attend to them in sickness and illness, but also to "care for" the spirit. A mind at ease makes for steady health — that is what my teacher told me.
Studying in this field, we go on placements at hospitals, and in these settings I have also seen many good and bad sides to it. I feel that money can be used to buy more for oneself, and in so doing to set oneself against the law God has taught us. That is why I want, once I graduate, to become a nurse who is honest and true of heart, in keeping with the spirit of a Christian, helping those who are sick and ill. I know that to do all this, right now I must strive to study well. But because my circumstances are somewhat difficult, I write this letter in the hope that your association will help me, as well as others in difficult circumstances, to give my dream wings so that I may achieve what I long for.
