Happy 8th Birthday to the Our Lady of La Vang Scholarship
Every year on 16 January, the date of its founding, the Our Lady of La Vang Scholarship joyfully celebrates its birthday. This year the Scholarship has just turned 8 (16 January 2011 – 16 January 2019), a milestone marked by gatherings of scholarship recipients and volunteers at our various local regional groups.
The highlight of this year's birthday was the simple, warm-hearted reunion held at each regional group. Through this shared connection, every geographical boundary — from Hà Nội, Vinh, Hà Tĩnh, Huế, Đà Nẵng and Sài Gòn to the United States, France and Germany — seemed to dissolve, as everyone shared one and the same sentiment, one and the same heartbeat in celebrating the Scholarship's birthday. The youthful energy and enthusiasm of the volunteers at each regional group served as the bridge, the seed that spread joy, excitement and deep meaning to all who took part.
The scholarship recipients gathered together to share their stories and confide in one another, to blow out the birthday candles, and above all to experience the close personal accompaniment given to each individual — something few scholarship funds manage to do. And that is precisely what the Scholarship has always aimed at: accompaniment, solidarity and growth.
We give thanks to God and to Our Lady of La Vang for pouring out so many graces upon our Scholarship. On this birthday, we do not forget to pray in a special way for our benefactors, our Chief Advisor, our Managing Brothers, and all our scholarship recipients and volunteers.
May the generosity, sacrifice and zeal of our Fathers, Brothers and benefactors both at home and abroad be blessed by God and repaid a hundredfold. May Our Lady of La Vang protect us and intercede with the Lord to grant us the grace of growth, so that our Scholarship may be an instrument of God for the advancement of the human person, contributing to the spread of learning and the development of society.
May this turning point of eight years of growth for the Scholarship bear fruit, and help disperse the dark clouds hanging over education and society in Việt Nam today.
